Prejudice

Jiu-jitsu is a very physical sport, which can be an obstacle for many women. Various prejudices such as age, weight, and other things are very common.
First, Jiu-Jitsu can legit be for anyone. It doesn’t matter if you are 100 pounds or 300 pounds if you are 11 years or 50 years old. It doesn’t really matter. These are irrelevant things, and it is something that you will see and learn for yourself over time.
You have to know that in Jiu-Jitsu they are no age limitations, remember this. You are not too young to start if you are maybe 15 years old, or you are not too old if you are 40.
The good thing about it, it’s very adaptable.
Also, it is not important if you are athletic or If you have never done anything like this before, you can train as hard as you want to train.

Confidence

The confidence aspect, that’s another important part of what Jiu-Jitsu will teach you. Learn what your body can do, and what it’s capable of. This can be especially helpful for women. Jiu-Jitsu is certainly one of the best tools for building self-confidence
It is a great benefit to knowing what your body can do, having physical confidence, and knowing that you can do it.

These are just some of the tips you can take. Give it a chance and give it a try, only then you can fully see and know what Jiu-Jitsu really is.

How To Catch Anyone: The “Fishnet” BJJ Half Guard

Fishnet BJJ Half guard attacks

The BJJ Half Guard is one of the most interesting aspects of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. It comes naturally to people even if they are complete beginners, and it is quite enticing to play. However, you soon realize there are plenty of variations of it. Moreover,r you realize that they won’t all work the same for you, nor will every variation suit you on every occasion. Furthermore, creating variations become redundant after a while if they don’t evolve. One such evolution is the Fishnet BJJ half guard.

Playing half guard is not hard if you know what you are doing. There are certain aspects of ht half guard that are crucial and they come in the form of common half guard principles. As with every principle, there are exceptions, of course, but for the majority of BJJ half guard variations, these principles hold true. Before we go into the ins and outs of the innovative Fishnet half guard variation, we’ll explore some common principles of this popular BJJ position.

The World Of BJJ Half Guard(s)

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the half guard is such an instinctual position that it was actually developed pretty much by instinct. Gordo developed the half guard when he had an injured leg and was trying to hide it in order to protect it when rolling. At the time, the only alternative was the closed Guard, so the end product was – half guard. Since then, we’ve had a steady stream of half guard variations. Some are just flashy stuff, others fade away after a couple of years, while some remain for good.

The underhook half gaud is the most utilized version to this day, ranging from some basics to stuff like the Coyote half guard. Overhook half guard variations never really caught on, despite being highly effective when modified a little bit. That said, Eddie bravo’s lockdown half guard burst through most conception about the position, proving people can play the position with their backs on the ground. Then cam more modern version like the butterfly half guard that ties in perfectly with the modern leg-lock based game.

There are of course plenty of Gi and nO-Gi based half guard games in between, and they’ve all added to the huge pool of BJJ half guаrd options. However, it is the modifications to some of the basic versions, like the underhook half guard that really hit the nail on the head. The Fishnet is just such a half guard.

The Basics Of The “Fishnet” BJJ Half Guard

What the Fishnet BJJ half guard does is basically get past the issue of people trapping that underhook arm for Darces and other front headlock attacks. How? Simple – it takes the underhook away past the armpit, placing it much lower around the waist.

Fishnet BJJ Half guard entryLet me take you through this variation, which I first saw from a really talented black belt named Nathan Adamson, from the beginning. Starting in the usual Z-guard(knee shield) half guard variation, you’ll be looking to get really deep hooks on your partner. Simply put, use the knee shield leg to kick behind the armpit, as you use the bottom leg to pull and sneak in the bottom arm under the opponent’s thigh. Nothing really unusual so far.
the major change comes in the form of the underhook arm which instead of just going under the armpit, now goes around the waist gripping the pelvis on the opposite side.

Hiding the head in the nearside leg completes the entry, but in order to get more control, you need one more key detail – the Coil. That top leg of yours that kicked under the armpit now has the task of scooping the half guard leg at calf level and twisting it so that the heel is facing upward. That’s when you’ve got your opponent trapped in the fishnet BJJ half guard.

BJJ Half guard Basic Fishnet sweepsSweeping from there is pretty much guaranteed. All you need is to go to your knees and you’re on top, possibly looking at a back take or a simple push sweep. Alternatively, you can just do a hotdog roll and throw the opponent to the other side, putting them in an endless dilemma of which direction you’ll sweep to.

Advanced Fishnet Maneuvers

This gets us to the fun aspects of the Fishnet BJJ half guard. So far, we went through some of the basics like the position itself and entering from the most common half guard variation – the knee shield. Plus we looked at a couple of “basic” sweeps too, which work with a surprisingly high percentage of effectiveness.

BJJ Half guard Fishnet counter sweepsThere are a couple of things that ta top person might attempt when your underhook arm is so low. One is backstepping, hoping to go into leg locks or pass your guard. A simple transition of your grip on the half guard leg as they step back, and switching the hooks with your legs will prevent every option they have.

BJJ Half guard Fishnet sweepsIn fact, if an opponent tries to go back, or jump over, they’ll just give you their back, leading you to the position the very first sweep set up. If, on the other hand, they decide to stay there, you end up with a guaranteed sweep. Simply hunt for the far leg with the leg you’re using as a pole to stop the opponent from moving, and look to slap on a lockdown. This will get you on top, with a leg so entangled your opponent will have no idea what to do.

And, if you want to e extra evil, you can just go for the Vaporizer calf slicer rolling submission from there.

Final Thoughts

The Fishnet BJJ half guard is a very funky variation that has proven to be really handy for me on multiple occasions. Gi or No-Gi, this crazy little half guard works, and it particularly useful against larger opponents. Plus, the more advanced options that counter that backstep, jump over and leg lock entries are really useful to deal with high-level grapplers or those lightning-fast competitors. Give it a try!

BJJ Brown Belt Requirements And Curriculum

BJJ Brown belt requirements curriculum

Enjoying your life as a purple belt? Well, you should, as it is probably the most exciting period in BJJ, and it’s belt system. At least it was for me. However, as fun as the purple belt is, it is not really the one we’re after, is it? Brown belt is the belt where everything in BJJ actually happened because that is when Jiu-Jitsu finally starts to make sense. It also happens to be the step just before the grand finale, at least belt-wise – the black belt. But how do you get a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu? Check out the detailed Jiu-Jitsu Belt Requirements for a Brown Belt!

BJJ Brown Belt Requirements are quite tricky. As a purple belt, you’ve reached the phase of Jiu-Jitsu where everything is open for experimentation. You’re pretty much a teenager in grappling terms at this point. That means that techniques are not as cut and dry as with previous belt requirements. Things blend in together at the purple belt as combinations, chains, and loops, before they finally start making sense at brown. That said, there are big things that you need to achieve at purple before you’re ready to claim that brown belt.

BJJ Brown Belt – This Jiu-Jitsu Thing Starts To Make Sense

At brown belt, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu will finally start to make sense. According to the IBJJF, you need to be at least 18 years of age to be considered for a brown belt promotion. You should also have at least 5-6 years of BJJ experience, with a couple of those spent as a purple belt. In most cases, people get brown after 7-8 years of training, which is pretty much as long as you need to start figuring out that Jiu-Jitsu can make sense, and that there are common niches in everything you do.

BJJ brown belt requirements have more to do with your mindset, your behavior, and your grasp of BJJ as an art, than they do with hit techniques, positions, or movements. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you can go without techniques. It does mean, that you’ll need to look into concepts and start asking questions about the techniques you know. After all, the purple belt is the time when people experiment the most, figuring yot both their standing top and bottom games and moving around like wildcats on a hunt.

BJJ Brown Belt Requirements GiBrown belt is also the time when you’ll inevitably start teaching, and a good instructor should already be preparing you for that as a purple belt. It is, not something that defines whether or not you’ll get a brown belt, as not everyone will want to teach immediately. However, it is key to know how to give back to the community, because people will be asking questions from brown belts. Still, there are certain technical things that you also have to really master as a p purple belt, because there’s no brown belt without takedowns, an understanding of counter-attacks, and the ability to submit most people you slap and bump with.

BJJ Brown Belt Requirements – An Overview

So, what do BJJ brown belt requirements and the curriculum look like? Well, I certainly can’t talk about the curriculum for everyone, since most schools tend to have their own. However, there are certain things that a brown belt should, or better said, must know.

In terms of the top and bottom game, the mark of a brown belt is balance. If purple belts start off mostly as guard players, when it comes to brown belts, balance is required. That means that in addition to a crazy complex guard game typical of purple belts, BJJ brown belt requirements also contain a number of top game aspects that a grappler has to understand.

In addition to that, submitting people is no longer optional. Purple belts are not really huge on the positional play anyway, unless it is a guard. Usually, purple belts have no problem submitting almost everyone in the gym, bare brown and black belts. The submission mindset is something that they should develop as purple belts because it will be crucial to what lies ahead at brown belt.

There is also the subject of escapes, and while they’re really something that a brown belt must master in order to progress toa black belt, purple is when you should start looking into different ways of escaping and defending. More on that in the detailed BJJ brown belt requirements later.

Detailed Breakdown Of BJJ Brown Belt Requirements

A brown belt needs to understand BJJ. that what that belt is all about. That means that as a purple belt, you should already be heading in that direction. BJJ Brwon belt requirements include a lot of things that are not connected to the technical aspect of Jiu-Jitsu. concepts and principles come to the forefront,  with a focus on how to connect things together into a system and then connect different systems together to build a game that reflects your individual character.

As a brown belt, you’ll only refine your personal game while re-learning some of the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu, this time completely understanding certain aspects of them. In that sense, movement, top, and bottom games, self-defense aspects, the mindset and the tasks you will have as a brown belt all play a huge role in when you manage to change levels from purple to brown.

1. Movement

A purple belt is as close to a hummingbird as a Jiu-Jitsu player gets. they’re all over the place, spinning, jumping, flying, and inverting, trying to attack submissions most of the time. That is to be expected, as most of the experimentation in BJJ happens during this period. The thing with a brown belt is that, when you finally finish with experimenting, you end up figuring out which few moves work in your favor.

BJJ Brown Belt Requirements promotionMovement wise, BJJ brown belt requirements demand efficiency. There’s no point in moving several times in order to perform a movement he nit can be done in one motion. that can be submission setup, a hip escape, to an Imanari roll – the principle is the same. AS a “mature” purple belt, you’ll start seeing that moving less helps you do more, which is a sign you’re ready to become a brown belt and discover an entirely new dimension of JIu-Jitsu.

As a brown belt, the task is going to be to understand movement, how and why it works, and simplify everything as much as possible. Although this may sound like the complete opposite of what a purple belt si doing. After you’re done with all the crazy movement-based rolls, you’ll see that there’ is a reason why “lazy BJJ” is such an efficient way of grappling.

2. Bottom Game

PLaying from the bottom in Jiu-Jitsu as a purple belt means you have a crazy amount of guards in your head. However, it is one thing to have a bunch of guard variations in your toolbox, and another to use them to progress your game so that you can select what really fits you, and fulfill the BJJ brown belt requirements.

It is hugely important that you understand the hierarchy of guard layers. Figuring out the distance from the guard, and which guard to use when distance changes is a mark of someone ready to test the brown belt waters. Also, there’s no single move from any guard, but rather intricate combinations and loops of attacks. Closed guard variations will need to reflect that, as will open guards.

  • Closed Guard

The closed guard of the brown belt is sickeningly simple, yet next to impossible to deal with. Brown let’s know how to prevent you from moving, how to utilize the most effective yet ultra-simple grips, and how to submit you without you ever seeing it coming. BJJ brown belt requirements, though, refer to what you learn as a purple belt, and in terms of the closed guard, that is all about lapel guards like the Brabo and pocket guard, and other key concepts, along with crazier stuff like the Octopus guard.

Attacking from the closed guard should reflect control and dominance from this staple BJJ position. As a purple belt looking to become brown, you’ll need to gauge your success with moves against brown and perhaps black belts, rather than lower belts. Submission chains go along way to help you ensure lots of taps. using highly attacking closed guard alternatives like the rat guard is also helpful. Moreover, quick attacks in the form of both sweeps and submissions are also tools you’ll need to develop as a purple belt.

  • Submission chains             [Read More]

  • Quick Surprise Attacks      [Read More]
  • Open Guards

There’s hardly anything I can do to point purple belts to guards – they already have tried them all. However, BJJ brown belt requirements have more to do with understanding how all open guards work as opposed to just collecting different variations of them. That said, some key guard positions like the shin-to-shin, single leg X-guard, worm guard, and all assorted lapel guards, etc are all learned at purple belt level. Moreover, they’re the foundation of understanding guards which is in turn, essential for a brown belt.

  • Lasso Guard                                                                         [Read More]
  • Worm Guard                                                                        [Read More]

  • Combining Guards                                                             [Read More]
  • Open Guard Attacks

If there is one aspect of a purple belt’s game that demonstrates how well they can blend attacks together it is the open guard. The butterfly guard is, of course, the dome of attacks for purple and brown belts, especially when it comes to leg locks and front headlocks. Different guard variations offer different entries into submission and you should know how to connect it all together with minimum movement as part of the BJJ brown belt requirements. The collar guard is a great example.

  • Half Guard

Form the half guard, things get a lot more fun at purple and brown belt level. Most purple belts seem to be fascinated by the deep half gaur, and i think purple belt si a great time to experiment with it. Something else that is highly underrated and ai thinks all brown belts should now is the lockdown half guard, and all its variations and attacking options.

3. Top Game

From the top, BJJ brown belt requirements go well past just controlling positions and passing. IN fac,t submissions while passing or from the top, as well as slick transitions are what marks a purple belt’s readiness to reach the next level. Apart from having options fro mall major positions like side control, mount, knee on belly, back, and turtle, a brown belt will need to transition seamlessly in between them. That just means you really need to study how to dominate them as a purple belt.

  • Side Control

From side control, the task is to tap as many people out as possible. When submissions don’t work, they’ll open up transitioning options (which often just provide more submissions as well) into other positions higher on the hierarchy. Pressure and weight management are among the key BJJ brown belt requirements, and creating variations of side control allows you to figure them out quickly. The crucifix side control is a great example.

The Mount

From the mount, a brown belt is practically immovable. The reason for that is that a sap purple belt, they’ve learned different variations to the usual ones people use, and have incorporated them into the mount game. In other words, the low, high and S-mount now get a company in the form of the middle, monkey mount, and the gift wrap. Essentials for anyone looking to progress toa brown belt.

Back Control

The back is another thing that a purple belt excels at. There’s no better human backpack that is trying to strangle you than a purple belt. the only difference with a brown belt si that you can’t shake ab Brown belt of, and they won’t just try, but they’ll strangle you for sure, even when you see it coming. Combining different back attacks is what a purple belt should focus on, as well as some unusual back-related positions, like the twister and truck.

  • Twister                                [Read More]
  • Body triangle                      [Read More]
  • Knee On Belly

If you’ve ever had a brown belt hold you with a knee on belly you know they can feel like a brick house on top of you, and still move like they’re a feather in the wind. BJJ brown belt requirements for this position include learning how to dominate every angel of the position, as well as moving the knee from the belly not other body parts for better control. Like the neck, for example.

  • Dominate The Position         [Read More]
  • Knee On Neck                       [Read More]
  • Turtle Attacks

Breaking down the turtle should not be an issue for purple belts. While a brown belt will know exactly why the turtle breaks down and the directions to do it in, a purple belt has a myriad of submission options to finish people while they’re turtled up. From Clock chokes to the Truck, this is the time to try them all and figure out your favorite course of action.

  • Guard Passing

In a guard passing sense, purple belts need to try and figure out some of the main principles of passing. Given that most are more focused on guards than passing, there are at least some aspects of passing that they should know as part of the BJJ brown belt requirements. THose start with Lots of guard passing drills to make up for all the time they spend in guard. Also included are passes like the arm trap, cartwheel pass, body lock, and passing the deep half. Furthermore, using submissions to pass is a mark of someone ready for a promotion.

4. Standing

BJJ Brown Belt RequirementsGetting people to the ground is another thing that should be as easy for a brown belt as choking someone from the ack. IN that sense, BJ Jbrown belt requirements are all about having a variety of ways to get people down, and knowing how to blend them together. It is especially important to know how to blend Judo and Sambo takedowns together, as well as know counters to takedown and guard, pulls. Takedowns that lead directly into the submissions area also something purple belts mess around with regularly.

  • Lapel takedown                                                                             [Read More]

  • Counter Takedowns                                                                      [Read More]

5. Submissions

The purple belt’s favorite part of the game, along with guard variations are submissions. In fact, give the BJJ brown belt requirements stat that you should be able to submit everyone from both top and bottom, there’s a lot of things to make sure you master as a purple belt. The leg locking positions and the interplay between them is one aspect. Submission chains from common subs like the Omoplatais another. There’s exploring catch-wrestling and other more obscure submissions as well. Also, there’s no better time to start playing with “grown-up” submissions, like heel hooks, muscle slicers, and neck cranks.

The most important thing, though is developing a submission hunting mindset. Even if you don’t decide to use it all the time, you’ll definitely need it as a brown ad definitely a black belt.

6. Escapes

AS a brown belt it becomes a lot more about countering stuff than escaping them. DEfnedign comes first, of course, but escapes usually end up with a submission of your own, or at least get a dominant position instead of a natural one. BJJ brown belt requirements will demand that you know who to escape side control, mount, back, knee no belly, and turtle into a dominant position, or use stuff like the title guard and squirrel lock (for example) to submit people directly form “bad spots”.

  • Side control bottom (Triangle submissions from bottom, Squirrel lock)      [Read More]

7. Mindset

When it comes to mindset a purple belt should be focused on movement. They should always be thinking about attacking, mostly in transitions and scrambles. staying on the outside of an opponent while launching attacks is also a way of thinking that usually marks a purple / brown belt. there’s also the submission hunting mindset, I talked about earlier, trying to finish a lot more than you’re trying to hold a position down.

In terms of escaping, BJ Jbrown belt requirements are all about becoming comfortable. It is characteristic of a brown belt to be completely loose and relaxed in bad spots, even deep submissions. however, as a purple belt, you should think about counting most bad spots by attacking as you escape. Looking to become comfortable is one of the main BJ Jbrown belt requirements to fulfill.

Finally, there’s rolling with new students and not trying to kill them. Despite that ask of purple belts begin to donate, a part of BJJ brown belt requirements is learning all about “teaching rolls”. That’s when you use rolls to teach people about Jiu-Jitsu, rather than dominate them completely. it makes no sense to dismantle a brand new white belt – it won’t do any good to either of you.

8. Self-Defense

From a self-defense perspective, a purple belt can hold their own, and there’s not really much to learn at this point. BJJ brown belt requirements just mean you’re aware of what works and what is obsolete. as well as when you can use BJJ to control and diffuse a situation, rather than escalate it.

9. Drills And Rolling

When it comes to drills, it is difficult to get purple belts to do them. they’re way past doing animal crawl movements and hip escapes but won’t do repetition drills either. A great idea is to start using scenarios that focus on what they need- transitions and submissions. A great example are the 10th planet warmups that can be set up as drills instead of warm-ups.

BJJ Brown Belt Requirements rollingWhen it comes to rolling a purple belt has to find a balance between competition-style rolls and teaching and flow rolls. All have a role to play in a purple belt’s evolution and progress towards a brown belt. AS discussed previously, BJJ brown belt requirements will revolve mostly around teaching rolls as opposed to how purple belts fare against other purple belts in competition rolls.

10. Behavior

This is a big one. Purple belts tend to be the most stubborn bunch of grapplers on the mats. they think they know all and are very rarely patient enough for anything. yet, they’re the next generation of advanced grapplers in a gym, meaning they will lend to take on teaching rolls, very often starting from the brown belt. One of the greatest BJJ brown belt requirements is for a purple belt to be able to teach JIu-jitsu to others.

Moreover, purple belts will catch the eye at tournaments if they’re competitors. As they near the brown belt, they have the responsibility o representing their academy and what it stand for at tournaments. This has nothing to do with winning or losing matches, and everything to do with sportsmanlike conduct and behind humble. representing the academy (competitors)

Helping around the Academy in any way possible, if it is not teaching as another way for purple belts to start giving back to the art of Jiu-Jitsu. Simply put, purple belts need to start taking roles within the academy, which can range from competitor to ambassador, from assistant coach to a person in charge of attendance cards and paperwork.

11. Optional

Once again, competition and doing extra training outside of the gym are optional for any belt, including purple belts .however, by this time, most people opt to compete anyway.  Competing as a purple belt is anything but easy, so there are certain things to focus on, especially when it comes to performing within the bounds of BJJ brown belt requirements.

– Competing

IF a blue belt needed a gameplan in order to compete, a pure belt will need to also understand tactics. Knowing all the rules and loopholes, as well as what’s legal and not is key for a purple belt competitor. In terms of reaching the next level, the tactical execution of the gameplan, and ever more so, the ability to adapt to chaos and scrambles and the unpredictable and come out on top is what professors will be looking at much more than wins or loses.

– Conditioning

At this point in time, after training grappling for more than 6-7 years, your body will be showing signs of abuse. As a purple belt, it is important to first get strong, and second, recover completely from any training you do. Conditioning is easy to see t up and should only be in focus several weeks before a tournament. During the other time, simple strength training should be the main thing, along with recovery routines and injury prevention methods.

Conclusion

All in all, BJJ brown belt requirements are different than purple and blue belt ones. At brown belt, the understanding of BJJ matures to a whole different level, and people go very deep into the essence of the sport. That is exactly why the purple belt period is both so fun and so important – it is when you learn most of BJJ from a technical standpoint. Al that experimentation coming together will mean that you are ready to reach the next level and be just one step shy of the coveted black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

UFC 256 brought us exciting and interesting matches. The early preliminary card was reserved for the fight in the Featherweight division, between Chase Hooper and Peter Barrett. Chase Hopper secure an incredible heel hook submission in the third round. The young 21 years old Chase “The Teenage Dream” Hooper stepped for the third time in the UFC octagon. In the last fight, Chase lost by a unanimous decision to Alex Caceres at the UFC 250, in June. Chase Hooper Heel Hook submission at UFC 256 Although Hooper was the favorite for this fight, Barrett controlled and dominate the first two rounds. Strong leg kicks and a good takedown defense from Barrett. But in the third round, Teenage Dream proofs his Jiu-Jitsu skills. He dropped for an Imanari Roll and gets into Barrett’s legs. He was able to isolate the leg, and secure an incredible Heel Hook. Amazing comeback for the win and he improves his record to 10-1-1 (2-1 in the UFC). This was the first heel hook submission in the featherweight division and the 19th overall in UFC history, according to Michael Carroll (UFC analyst). Once again Chase proved that his ground game is very dangerous, but what he will have to work on is his stand-up game.

Charles Oliveira’s Grappling was TOO MUCH for Tony Ferguson to Handle

Charles Oliveira armbar ferguson

Las Vegas, UFC 256 – right at the beginning of the fight, it was clear in which direction the fight would go and who would be more dominant. At the beginning of each round, Charles Oliveira would take Ferguson down and held him there without major problems. Tony Ferguson had no solution for Charles Oliveira’s grappling, and it all came down to his unsuccessful escapes from the bottom position. Oliveira was relentless, and Ferguson had no choice but to try to survive as much as he can. He lost 30-26 on all referee cards.

With this victory, Charles Oliveira recorded his eighth consecutive victory, which is also one of the most important in his career.

Tony Ferguson recorded his second consecutive defeat in his career after being stopped by Justin Gaeth in the title fight more than half a year ago, on May 9 at the UFC 249 event.

The fight between Ferguson and Gaethje probably left consequences on Ferguson since we could not recognize the real Ferguson in this fight with Oliveira. That simply wasn’t the Ferguson we used to see.

As we said, the problems for Ferguson started at the beginning of each round as he was taken down pretty fast, and he had nothing to offer from the back nor did he offer any constructive responses to Oliveira’s attacks.

The only thing we could see from Ferguson was an upkick in the second round that hit Oliveira in the chin but that kick was inadmissible as Oliveira had three body points on the ground so the fight was briefly interrupted by the referee.
Charles Oliveira triangle ferguson

Later in the first round, Oliveira had a great transition and an armbar attempt, however, Ferguson heard clappers signifying the 10 seconds warning, And despite the obvious pain he did not want to tap.

In the second round, Ferguson even had a chance to get to his feet, but Oliveira caught his triangle and returned the fight to the ground.

All in all a very good performance by Oliveira and one of the worst from Ferguson. Whether this was because of a short break by Ferguson who may not have recovered from Gaethje yet or simply his grappling skill is not at the level at which Oliveira’s grappling skill is but one thing is for sure. This wasn’t Tony Ferguson we’ve been used to watch all these years.

What we can ask ourselves is how would Ferguson fight Khabib? After this show of Ferguson against Oliveira, a lot can be clearer to us or not?

Chael Sonnen About the Promotion: What Will Adesanya Do With a Purple Belt?

ufc middleweight champion israel adesanya promoted to purple belt from andre galvao

A few days Ago, undefeated UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya got promoted to purple belt, from his coach Andre Galvao. Israel was training at the Atos HQ  in San Diego, California.

This news attracted a great deal of attention on social media. In the meantime, those who have a different opinion about this promotion have also appeared. In the last episode of Beyond the Fight, BJJ Black Belt and former UFC Middleweight, Chael Sonnen talked about Adesanya’s promotion.

Israel Adesanya and Andre Glalvao bjj purple belt promotion
Israel Adesanya and Andre Galvao

Chael Sonnen believes that there are some very strange parts to this story. “How a guy has a 12-pound gold belt but has a purple belt is bizarre, and whatever coach gave this to him was more trying to speak to his own high standard of learning…” With these words, Sonnen begins.
He claims that whatever coach gave Adesanya his purple belt is not trying to serve and praise Adesanya, they try to self-serve themselves to show how high the standard is. Also with this promotion, Galvao is trying to pat himself on that. He’s trying to shine his “own wheels”, not his athletes, considered Sonnen.
But there is one statement we cannot agree with, and that’s the statement that Galvao “doesn’t have any Abu Dhabi champions”. As we know, one of the best of Galvao’s students Kaynan Duarte won the gold medal at the ADCC World Championship 2019, in the +99kg division.

What is the reason for this speech by Chel Sonnen? What do you think about this promotion? Whether this is a well-deserved belt or “marketing” for the coach and his team, as Sonnen believes…

Rafael ‘Barata’ Freitas Acused Of Sexual Assault On A Student He ‘Drugged And Raped’

Rafael Barata accused

Rafael ‘Barata’ Freitas, the inventor of the popular Barataplata, has been arrested and jailed on accusations of alleged sexual assault. He is facing charges of “criminal sexual penetration,” according to the Albuquerque Journal, after being accused of drugging and then raping a student. There is video evidence in the investigation as well, which may be damning or help Barata’s case. Barata claims he is innocent and will fight the charges.

The Rafael ‘Barata’ Freitas Sexual Assault Incident

The famous BJJ black belt and MMA coach Rafael ‘Barata’ Freitas was charged with third-degree criminal sexual penetration a few days ago in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Known as  Gracie Barra professor and ambassador, the inventor of the Baratoplata armlock, and a grappling coach to many high-profile UFC fighters that train at Jackson – Winkeljon’s, Barata’s entire legacy might be in jeopardy.

As per the sexual assault charges, Rafael ‘Barata’ Freitas was invited over to a student’s house for a private lesson on November 7. During the time, he allegedly put something in the woman’s drink, after which he did the alleged assault.

Rafael ‘Barata’ Freitas Sexual Assault mugshotA police report states that there is evidence that Freitas “possibly dropped something in the woman’s orange juice while she was the bathroom, as his hand makes a ‘flicking’ motion over the glass.”

The evidence in question is for a security camera that e woman had in her living room which caught the entire alleged incident. The video shows that Freitas removed the woman’s shorts and “forced oral sex” while she was passed out. Later, he allegedly proceeded to rub her hand over his genitals.

Currently, Barata remains detained.

Barata Responds Through Lawyers

The law firm representing Freitas claims that the sexual encounter was consensual and that the video evidence actually works in favor of Barata. Rafael ‘Barata’ Freitas pleaded not guilty in court, and his lawyers later came out with a statement on the sexual assault charges that reads as follows:

“We represent Rafael de Freitas Barata, a well-loved and very accomplished jujitsu practitioner. To date, the public has received one-sided reports of sexual assault based on the word of the alleged victim and a video, which no news agency or the public has seen. We have now watched the video. Let us be clear: these charges are false. The video proves Mr. de Freitas’ innocence of a crime.

We will present evidence that she invited Mr. de Freitas over that morning in texts, poured alcohol, and had liquid THC, and her actions and responses during the video reflect a completely consensual encounter. Her statements to police also show that she had had motives to bring these false charges. Mr. de Freitas willingly admits and is remorseful about making a terrible error in his marriage and towards his wife. But he is absolutely innocent of any criminal sexual assault and his and his family’s name and reputation have been falsely maligned.

We are asking everyone to reserve judgment until all of the evidence is presented in Court.”

Kaynan Duarte Submits Rodolfo Vieira in only 2m30s

Kaynan Duarte Submits Rodolfo Vieira in 2m30s

It took Kaynan Duarte only 2 minutes and 30 seconds to end on Rodolfo’s back and submit him with a rear-naked choke at the Who’s Number One: Duarte vs Vieira.

Although Rodolfo had only four grappling matches in the last 5 years, no one could have predicted that the fight would be so short and that Kaynan would manage to get on Rodolfo’s back in a very short time and finish him off.

At the very beginning of the fight, Kaynan managed to snap Rodolfo to the floor, after which Rodolfo returned very quickly. About half a minute later, Kaynan took Rodolfo down with a Throw By throw and ended up on his back. There Rodolfo tried to get to his feet but it was all in vain as Kaynan slipped his hand deep under Rodolfo’s neck what forced Rodolfo to tap.

This was definitely a fight and a situation where we weren’t used to seeing Rodolfo. In general, Rodolfo was the one who would smash people, come on their backs, and strangle them, however, the break from active grappling competitions seems to be doing its thing.
