Omoplatas – you either love them and use them all the time, or you never enter the position because you have no idea what to do. If you find yourself to be part of this second category, you’re missing out on a whole part of BJJ that is super fun and even more effective.

The Whole Omoplata Enchilada Lyanne Perez DVD offers a very organized and methodical breakdown of the Omoplata, and all the options it offers grapplers from all kinds of different positions. It is very straightforward and easy to follow, and I’d recommend it to everyone, especially people who don’t like Omoplatas.

Catching Submissions With Your Legs

The legs are the strongest part of our bodies, and most grapplers are aware of this fact. They also happen to be quite less dexterous than your arms, which places them secondary in most folks’ toolboxes. That is a big mistake that holds people back for years on end.

You can practice leg dexterity for the purposes of BJJ, improving the success of everything you do multifold. Before you launch into complaining about how the legs are difficult to use, let me remind you that you’re already using them for moves such as triangles, Omoplatas, and different guards.

The idea is not that you’re going to grip the Gi using your feet. On the contrary, all you need to unlock the true potential of your legs in grappling is to start being aware of what they’re doing during exchanges. Star with positions familiar to you, like the ones above, and experiment from there.

People’s efforts in this regard have resulted in submissions such as the Tarikoplata, Barataplata, the Truck position, and countless other examples of positions and moves we use daily. The Whole Omoplata Enchilada Lyanne Perez DVD is a great resource to help you figure out one very specific way of using your legs to dominate opponents in BJJ.

Lyanne Perez – Sanity Jiu-JItsu

Currently, the holder of the IBJJF Pans title at black belt (for the second time) and with a long list of huge tournament wins in the few years she’s been a black belt, Lyanne Perez is a truly inspirational person and formidable grappler.

Introduced to Jiu-Jitsu as a teenager looking for self-defense, she established herself as one of the key figures in women’s Jiu-Jitsu from her early days of grappling. She has also been teaching since her purple belt, amassing experience that helps her conquer world titles and empower women who grapple around the world.

Leyanne got her black belt from Royler Gracie in 2019, after almost 10 years in the sport. Currently, she is the head instructor and owner of Ssanity Jiu-Jitsu in Winter Garden, FL. For those that can’t drop in to see what Perez is all about, her The Whole Omoplata Enchilada Lyanne Perez DVD is the next best thing! The Whole Omoplata Enchilada Lyanne Perez DVD Review

I’m often cautious about Omoplata DVDs, as they’ve proven to be either hits or complete misses over the years. Going through the Whole Omoplata Enchilada Lyanne Perez DVD proved to me that this instructional fits under the ‘hits’ category. It contains three volumes and around two hours of perfectly organized material that breaks down a full Omoplata-based game plan for Gi Jiu-Jitsu.

Part 1 – Getting to the Omoplata

There is a clear sense of organization and systematic work right from the very first chapter of The Whole Omoplata Enchilada Lyanne Perez DVD. I’d never seen a Lyanne Perez DVD before, but I can see why people rave about her being an exceptional teacher.

She starts off by presenting the Omoplata position from the perspective of entries and setups. Of course, she stars from the guard, but her entires don’t contain steps, but rather phases of breaking down the opponent’s resistance using your entire body, starting with posture and ending with arm isolation.

This first volume covers different guard entries, such as the spider and lasso guards, but it also offers ways into Omoplatas from the top, more precisely from different passing situations. and even side control.

Part 2 – Finishes and Follow-Ups

Once in position, Lyanne starts deconstructing the Omoplata finish, which I consider to be one of the most technical submissions in the entire sport of BJJ. She begins by defining the perpendicular Omoplata positions, and stars offering different armlocks from there, from shoulder locks, through elbow attacks all the way to wristlocks.

Basically, she attacks the entire length of the arm from the Omoplata position. Follow-ups include alternative Kimura finishes and a very sneaky Monoplata setup, among others, based on the opponent’s reactions.

As such, they present submission chains that are bound to result in either a tap, back exposure, or a sweep once strung together. Saving the best for last, Perez reaches the halfway point of the Lyanne Perez Omoplata DVD by presenting her signature wing trap.

Part 3 – The Omoplata Sweep System

The best sweeps in grappling happen from submission positions. I’m open to someone changing my mind, but that hasn’t happened so far. In fact, this Whole Omoplata Enchilada Lyanne Perez DVD only reinforced my beliefs further.

Lyanne’s take on sweeping from the Omoplata is omnidirectional, offering different directions and different landing positions. For example, she has forward sweeps finishing in knee on belly, and backward sweeps that lead into mounted triangles. Once again, there is lots of focus on active work, riding the opponent rather than trying to force them into anything.

Game-Building Moves in BJJ

Most people tend to specialize in something when they decide to start competing in BJJ, but they often have to go back to the drawing board. The reason is picking a move that is not optimal to be the central focus of an entire game.

If you take a heel hook, for example, you’ll notice that you can’t really use it to threaten a submission, sweep, pass, or takedown at the same time. Only a few moves fit this category, with some of the most popular ones being Kimuras and Guillotines.

The more positions in BJJ you can go into without losing a move that contains a clear and serious submission threat, the better that move is as a centerpiece of your game. As it happens, the Omoplata is one of these moves, working almost all across the board (with the exception of takedowns).

If you want to build a strong guard game that ends up with you winning by submission from the top, bottom, or in between, focus on Omoplatas. Use the The Whole Omoplata Enchilada Lyanne Perez DVD for help.
