Gilbert Burns Refused the Offered Fight Against Vicente Luque

Gilbert Burns Refused the Offered Fight Against Vicente Luque

Second-ranked UFC welterweight challenger, Gilbert Burns, is known as a fighter who is willing to fight anyone, anytime, anywhere. Burns often accepted short-notice fights, and even more often he offered himself as a fighter ready to jump into many matches that one of the actors canceled at the last minute.

Still, it seems that Burns is not ready to accept all the opponents that the UFC offers him. Namely, ” Durinho revealed in an interview with MMA Fighting that he was offered Vicente Luque as an opponent, but he refused. Namely, Burns and his compatriot are great friends, and at the same time teammates, and all that is an insurmountable obstacle to arranging this match.

”I’m frustrated by the long wait for the match. But that’s part of the job. The UFC told me they wanted a fight between Vicente and me, but since there is a friendship between us, it won’t happen. The fraternity screwed us up, otherwise, we would have already fought. If we did that, the second-ranked challenger against the fourth-ranked. I would jump further with that win, and Vicente would also progress with the win. I think our situation is holding us back more than the other guys in the category,” Burns began, then explained further.

‘The match makes sense if we look at the rankings. They know we don’t want to fight each other, but they asked and tried anyway. However, we refused. Vicente is the only opponent in the whole category against whom I refused the match, and the same goes in the opposite direction. Other than that, I’ve already said I would fight anyone.”

By the way, Kamaru Usman was also a teammate, but also a friend of Gilbert Burns, but the duo still fought. Usman knocked out Burns in the second month of this year, and the Nigerian also changed the gym to prepare for that match. Later, Usman remained in Trevor Wittman Gym, while Burns and Luque are still members of the Sanford MMA Gym.

Vicente Luque earlier this year, in an interview with BJPenn.com, also referred to a potential match against Burns. His answer gives a broader picture of why Burns was willing to fight Usman who was also his teammate and friend, but he doesn’t want to fight Luque.

“We have already said that we will not fight each other. We are more than friends, we are brothers. Our families are very close and we have a different relationship than with other teammates. We both want to be champions and we are working on that. We also want each other to be champions. There are a lot of other guys we can fight” Luque explained in April this year.

Understanding Concepts Will Skyrocket Your Jiu-Jitsu

Focus solely on one concept from one position. Fully understand the mission in its context and don’t look at anything else on YouTube or in your library that doesn’t have anything to do with it. Stay laser-like focused.

For example, take Guard passing and instead of looking up all kinds of passes, take one pass and understand the core concept of it.

When passing the guard you can go in 4 directions. You can pass guards over the legs, under the legs, or around the legs (meaning left or right). There are combinations of that as well. So, pick one direction, and take a deep dive into the concepts of why and how it works.

Let’s take the Stack Pass in which we’re going under the legs.

When looking at the Stack Pass concept it’s really about controlling the legs by lifting the opponent’s hips off the ground. How do you lift the hips depends on if it’s Gi or No-Gi. It also depends on the grips, and on the reaction. The Grips you use, the entry, the reaction of the opponent those things don’t matter, and yet they all do.

When you fully understand a concept you won’t get caught up in the failure of a single grip. It won’t matter your opponent’s reaction because you will learn to adjust accordingly if you understand the concept and the core. You understand at a deeper level what is really going on.

If you don’t get the grip you want, you won’t feel like it makes or breaks you. There’s no failure, only adjusting how you keep applying the concept. The concept is for you to get the hips off the ground, to control the opponent, and pass. Research how to do that.

Entries, concepts, tricking your opponent to do it for you, it all matters because it keeps it interesting. Take a deep dive into that one concept and train it for the next 33 days. I guarantee that your understanding will skyrocket.

The Concept is the Macro part, which to me is the most important because it is the common denominator in the success of the technique.

The setup or variations are great, but knowing the larger goal will keep your eye on the real prize.

It’s the understanding of Jiu-Jitsu that we are truly after. If we understand the core, the concepts of what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ in situations, we can be our own best coach. It may not make you the best in the world, but you can’t be the best in the world without it.

Understanding the core concept will allow you to look at any position and troubleshoot it. Come up with our own solutions instead of being spoon-fed answers by others.

I’m rooting for you. Make the most of the rest of this year!!

A New Madness in Poland: The Fight Took Place in Seven-Square-Meters Cage

For a while, we had a feeling that the Russians were a people capable of organizing really everything within martial arts, but in recent years the inhabitants of a nearby state have surpassed them. Of course, we are talking about Poles, where MMA, thanks to KSW, has gained enormous popularity, and as a result, a huge number of martial arts promotions have emerged. In such competition, it is often necessary to come up with something that would make some stand out from others, so we have already seen quite a few unexpected rules or types of fights, as a result of which some new ideas should not surprise us.

Yet what they have made out of promoting Fame MMA is entering a new group of craze. They organized the event in front of a very well-filled hall in Gdansk, and one of the clashes was between Jacek Muranski and Arkadiusz Tankula. The names probably mean nothing to you, but we’ll reveal to you how Muranski is a 52-year-old actor who jumped into the fight instead of his son who got injured a few days before the show.

But what the organizers did for this fight is even more seen. They removed the fence of their standard arena and placed a smaller one inside it, with an area of approximately seven square meters, like a slightly larger bathroom or a smaller children’s room. As the light heavyweights fought, that surface automatically seems even smaller.

It all took just over two minutes before the fight ended with the disqualification of Muranski, who bit his opponent several times. Purely to confirm the madness to the end. Everything that had happened before was one complete kind of chaos. We will not go on, look at the two videos below.

Miesha Tate Removes Her Own Stiches and Shares a Video of Doing It

Miesha Tate Removes Her Own Stiches and Shares a Video of Doing It

The former UFC champion, Miesha Tate, has decided there is no need to go to the doctor for a small procedure.

Miesha Tate failed to meet her ambitions in the second fight after returning from a combat retirement. After five rounds of fighting, Ketlen Vieira was better than her, and Miesha earned several cuts in the Octagon. The largest of these was under the left eye and this required medical intervention immediately after the fight.

The former UFC champion is “stitched up,” and a week later she decided to get rid of the stitches on her own. She decided to record the process and publish it on her YouTube channel.

“Who needs a doctor !? I heal very quickly and I’m ready to go back, but first and foremost these stitches have to come out,” Miesha wrote in a description of the video we share below.

Over the course of this week, Miesha has posted some of her views several times for which she has earned only praise. In addition to congratulating her opponent, she repeatedly emphasized that she was very satisfied with the whole experience of the fight and that she learned a lot about herself in it.

Would you have decided on this same move or maybe you have done it before? Either way, Miesha must be congratulated on her courage, but also on her true champion behavior after a fight that she unexpectedly lost.

Donald Trump Receives a Ninth-Degree Black Belt, Surpassing Many Masters and Even Chuck Norris

Donald Trump Receives a Ninth-Degree Black Belt, Surpassing Many Masters and Even Chuck Norris

According to this, the former American president could be one of the greatest martial authorities.

The 75-year-old former US President Donald Trump owns one of the most valuable belts in taekwondo martial art. Although he had never practiced the sport, the president of the Kukkiwon taekwondo organization, Lee Dong-sup, decided to award him an honorary belt, as mentioned above. But the problem is on that 9th day, which is really only awarded to those who have achieved the most or have helped the sport a lot. Trump is not one, after which many criticisms of the move have emerged.

The mentioned president of the organization stated that he himself is proud to have had the opportunity to award the belt and that the move has absolutely no political connotations. Trump accepted it with pleasure and said he would like to see a presentation of a skill he had recently become a master of. In short, he didn’t check that segment either. But photography has fallen and Kukkiwon is mentioned. Who knows, maybe that was the main ambition.

This belt was also given to Vladimir Putin in 2013, so we can hardly accept the latter. Especially since he has never played that sport either.

The skill that is the pride of South Korea was practiced by many famous “practitioners” of martial arts, such as Chuck Norris, who reached the 8th day. Norris is the only man in history to wear black belts from at least one martial art within each of the four groups (kicking, punching, grappling, throwing). But Trump and Putin have surpassed him in this one. Who knows, they might take his position in-jokes as well.

Let’s Recall the Great Return of Minotauro Against the Most Feared Fighter in the World at the Time

Let's Recall the Great Return of Minotauro Against the Most Feared Fighter in the World at the Time

Although in the later days of his career Bob Sapp became a fighter not really worth mentioning in some serious connotations, his original appearance in Japanese rings was brutal. The huge former NFL defender, who delighted with his strength, but also with his incredible speed for a fighter of his constitution, very quickly became a fighter with the greatest hype, but also someone that everyone feared.

He was so impressive in his first two appearances within the Pride ring, that he got a legend Minotauro against himself in the third. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was dominant at the time, and his BJJ was a hard-to-solve puzzle for everyone. But how to respond to all that Sapp has to offer? From the very beginning of the fight, held in August 2002, it seemed difficult. Sapp started to throw the Brazilian around the ring and dominate from the top position. Nogueira looked helpless, and everyone who looked at Sapp with fear was only more humble. Has a man appeared who will run over everything?

The answer to this question was obtained after four minutes of the second round. The Brazilian was still in an inferior position, but Sapp started to get tired in trying to finish the fight. The Minotaur then showed how little a grandmaster like him actually needs. He turned to the upper position and then attacked the hand of a fighter who simply did not have the slightest skill needed to stop such a thing. Very quickly it was all over and the book on MMA history got one of its golden pages.

The UFC decided to recall that fight on its page. Take a look!

The Reason You Suck in Jiu-Jitsu is your Mindset

The Reason you suck in Jiu-Jitsu is your Mindset

First off you don’t suck, it’s the story you make up in your mind that tells you that you suck.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Have you ever heard that before? Read it again.

The truth is, on this Journey, it’s all about self-development. To be better than you were yesterday.

When you compare how you did to your opponent it’s not always fair to you or your development. Fair means an honest assessment. Life isn’t fair so I hate using the word ‘Fair’.

If you’re a competitor this is just as true, though it doesn’t seem like it.

If you could measure by percentages, if it were possible, though you lose to someone you could still have gotten better by percentage points.

For example, I have rolled with several World Champions during a private lesson or Open mat setting. Gui Mendes was someone I rolled with. After getting destroyed by him I immediately got a ton better. I had lightbulbs go off for me all over. How his top pressure felt, his smoothness into submissions. It was as if he taught me so much without saying a word.

I definitely Got Better!

James O'Connor 3rd degree bjj black belt
James O’Connor 3rd Degree Black Belt

I walked away with clear direction on what my next training session should Be like and what I should FEEL like. How I should FEEL Attacking my opponent. Small details on how to grab the lapel tighter. I had the same happen with Marcelo Garcia. So invaluable.

This was because I felt them destroying me and I internalized the feeling as something positive. I didn’t spin a story in my head about how I would never be as good as them. I took the experience as valuable proprioceptive feedback.

The next time you lose, don’t get the submission you wanted, or just get smashed, walk away with a lesson on how you can do that to someone else. Reverse what happened to you in your head. Remember the feeling where you felt pressure from your opponent. Maybe where they slipped around your pressure and then start doing it to others. How were they smashing into your head and chin from side control? How they may have been subtly controlling your far knee with a pants grip. The Devil is in the Details.

Not all lessons need to be spoken. What one person perceives as a loss another may find as a Eureka moment.

Become a Master of reframing stories in your head to make you a stronger JiuJitsu athlete. Careful, this may also bleed into other parts of your life. You may have less misery because you are making up new stories in your head about events that happen ‘to you. Retelling an event in a positive way.

Mindset is everything, look for ways you can improve in the midst of what looks like a loss.
