UFC star and 2007 ADCC world champion Demian Maia is promoted to 5th-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
After 24 years of training and competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and MMA Demian Maia received his 5th degree on a BJJ Black Belt. All we can say is this is very well deserved and proven numerous times.
Demian Maia started training in Judo as a child at the age of 4 in Sao Paulo where he was born. He sticks with Judo for only two years. At the age of 19, he was introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and in 4 years and 7 months, he was already a black belt.
He was competing a lot in BJJ winning numerous titles and medals from most BJJ organizations at the time including IBJJF and ADCC. His major achievements in BJJ and Grappling are the IBJJF World champion title in 2000 and an ADCC champion title in 2007.
Soon after becoming an ADCC champion, he joined UFC where he’s competing even now at the age of 43.
