76 Years Old Robert Aguilar Promoted to BJJ Black Belt by Romulo Barral

Becoming a black belt in BJJ is something really big considering how much work and will it takes. However, when you manage to earn your black belt at the age of 76 it makes a lot of sense. That is exactly what Robert Aguilar did.

Namely, Roberto Aguilar started training BJJ at the age of 68 and 8 years later was promoted to the black belt under one of the greatest in the sport, Romulo Barral.

During the promotion, Barral gave a delivered speech concluding how Aguilar’s Black Belt was very well earned, and not given:

“What a special moment to promote my student Robert Aguilar to a black belt. Robert started to train at the age of 68 and he made the commitment to get his black belt. And today, he accomplished his goal. Robert thank you to inspire all of us @gbnorthridge and the whole Jiu-Jitsu community. Nothing is given, you earn it.”

Even Joe Rogan described the success of Robert Aguilar as an “incredible accomplishment”:

“Here’s some awesome inspiration and an enhancement of perspective. This gentleman didn’t start training in Jiu-Jitsu until he was 68 years old, and he just received his black belt from the highly respected Romulo Barral.
An incredible accomplishment!”

Burns without medical suspension, Chimaev gets 30 days

Gilbert Burns strikes Khamzat Chimaev

The suspensions received by fighters who attended the UFC 273 event last Saturday are well-known. Given what we witnessed in the cage, some of them will certainly surprise you. The “Korean Zombie,” for example, was suspended for just 14 days after three rounds of nonstop devastation from Volkanovsky. Volkanovsky’s ban also lasts for 14 days.

If a fracture, open wounds, or a severe knockout occurs during the bout, suspensions generally endure for a long time. That’s probably why “Zombie” got such a short suspension; he didn’t suffer either of these problems.

The lengths of other fighters’ suspensions are also known. Aljamain Sterling was handed a 30-day suspension, whereas his opponent, Petr Yan, who lost by split court decision, was given a 45-day ban. It was predicted that Gilbert Burns would be disciplined longer than Khamzat Chimaev, the winner of the fight, who received a 30-day suspension. It’s possible that the commission chose to do so in order to protect Khamzat’s broken nose from further damage.

Vinc Pichel, Ian Garry, Darian Weeks, Josh Fremd, Raquel Pennington, Mike Malott, Mickey Gall, and Aleksei Oleinik all avoided a suspension.

Mackenzie Dern, Mark Madsen, Anthony Hernandez, Jared Vanderaa, Kay Hansen, Julio Arce, and Daniel Santos also received a one-month suspension, and Aspen Ladd received the longest suspension of 45 days.

A Young Boxer Died at a Charity Event

A Young Boxer Died at a Charity Event

What’s even worse is that this is not the first time something like this has happened within the UWCB

All of it occurred as part of a fundraising event held to raise money for Cancer Research UK, which is committed to studying cancer. The Ultra White Collar Boxing organizers were shocked by the unsavory occurrence and quickly apologized.

The boxer who died was in his twenties, and it’s unclear yet who he was. He was rushed to the hospital following serious head injuries that were not able to be reversed. Organizers extended their sympathies with a statement of support for the family.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of the man who tragically died at the hospital after trying to raise money for Cancer Research UK as part of the Ultra White Collar Boxing event.”

“Our thoughts are currently with his loved ones.”

Although the specifics of this event are unknown, whether the boxers are professionals or amateurs is uncertain. It’s not uncommon for fighters who can’t compete against each other on a level playing field to match out of ignorance at such tiny events, resulting in tragedy.

In 2018, an untrained young engineer entered a bout at the Ultra White Collar Boxing event to raise money for cancer research and suffered severe injuries that nearly cost him his life. It was his family who contacted the hospital after the show, stating that had it not been for this incident, the young man would have died. They subsequently called for the disbandment of the organization to ensure no one else gets harmed.

Burns: “I Want a Rematch With Chimaev, But in a Five Rounds Fight”, Chimaev Replies:

Gilbert Burns: "I Wanna a Rematch With Chimaev, But in a Five Rounds", Chimaev Replies

On the morning of their bout, Gilbert Burns was subjected to severe undervaluation. Despite the fact that Brazilian entered the fight as the #2-ranked welterweight challenger, and Khamzat as 11th, Chimaev was a prohibitive favorite by the bookmakers.

Those who are more familiar with MMA and Gilbert Burns were aware that Chimaev would have a difficult time. “Durinho” is well-versed in all aspects of MMA, and he’s also quite powerful. The Brazilian finally lived up to the hopes of those who believed he would put up the toughest fight of his career thus far.

Burns lost by a 29-28 score from the judges, and on all three referee cards, the result was 29-28 (2-1 in rounds for Chimaev). Burns dropped to fourth place in the challenger standings, while Chimaev moved up to third.

Despite losing, the 35-year-old Brazilian affirmed that his goal remains the same: to win the title. “Durinho” thinks he is still among the best and it is hard to disagree. He will have to work his way back up through three powerful guys as Usman, Covington, and Chimaev are in front of him at the moment. “Durinho” hopes for a chance to avenge his last defeat.

” I don’t think we’re done. I truly believe we are not done (he and Chimaev). Clearly he is advancing in the standings and they (UFC) want that to match him and Colby Covington. But I am not afraid of anyone in this category. I have proven this many times. I ask Khamzat for only one thing, and that is politeness. I was second-ranked and agreed to fight an 11-ranked fighter. I want a rematch with Khamzat. If he beats Colby, he will fight Kamaru, and I want a rematch through his next three fights. I don’t think we’re done until one guy comes to victory by a break. This fight was supposed to be in five rounds, ” Burns told TSN.

The Brazilian reportedly even pushed the idea to hold the fight for five rounds, but UFC leaders rejected the idea because they already had two title fights as part of the UFC 273 event. As for Burns’ comments, Chimaev was quick to respond.

”In five rounds, I’d take your soul. See you soon, boy” Chimaev wrote on Instagram.

It’s very probable that the paths of the two great runners will cross once more in the future, but Chimaev now faces new obstacles and must continue down his path to the top. As for Burns, fighting someone as formidable as Jorge Masvidal appears like a smart option for his next fight.

Nick Diaz Is Not Ready To Retire From MMA Yet: His Coach Reveals When He’ll Fight Again

Nick Diaz Is Not Ready To Retire From MMA Yet: His Coach Reveals When He'll Fight Again

The legendary fighter from Stockton has not registered a victory since 2011

Fans of the mixed martial arts were relieved when word emerged from the UFC last year that Nick Diaz would return to the cage. After a six-and-a-half-year absence, one of the most popular fighters in the sport has returned to the cage against Robbie Lawler.

The action of the bout was good, but Nick lost technically in the third round, and opinions about it were divided. Some people believe that the two veterans put on a decent fight with plenty of excitement; others think Diaz’s release was sad, and disappointing, and believe his era has gone.

The fact that Diaz fought again after losing to Weidman was not known for a long time. Nick has been waiting since 2011 to win, and in his last four fights, he has suffered three defeats and a “no contest” against Anderson Silva.

Nick Diaz’s great rival Georges St-Pierre feels that Nick Diaz squandered his greatest fighting years and that his prime has passed. It’s easy to agree with the legendary Canadian, but it appears Nick Diaz will be back in a cage soon.

Cesar Gracie, Cesar Gracie BJJ Hall’s head coach and Nick’s trainer, announced on social media that we will be seeing Diaz in the cage once again.

“Follow Nick Diaz’s fight that will happen by the end of this year,” Gracie wrote in his Instagram post.

The question is who will Nick Diaz be paired with in the promotion. Robbie Lawler was an excellent choice, but picking a new adversary might not be easy. Many people want to see Diaz vs. someone more prominent, but those are the greatest fighters that aren’t a good idea when it comes to looking for Nick’s next opponent. The UFC will have to make a decision regarding this issue. Dana White was against the notion of Diaz continuing to fight following his bout with Lawler.

”I was impressed with his return in September (ninth month). I talked to Lawler and he only had respect for Nick and the way he fought. But no matter how good Diaz looked, I don’t think he should fight anymore. He’s a grown man, he can do whatever he wants, but I don’t think he does this because he loves sports. He fights because he has to,” Dana White said at the time.

Whether Diaz should fight or not is not up to us to decide. The decision is his, as will the decision of many fans to watch his new match, regardless of whether the best days are behind him.

Relson Gracie Shows an Amazing “Reading Newspaper” Armbar

Relson Gracie Shows an Amazing “Reading Newspaper” Armbar

There’s a huge chance you’ve never seen this one.

Once you start training Jiu-Jitsu, the armbar is probably the first submission you’ll learn. You’ll learn just a basic variation for the most part, but actually, there are a lot of them.

In the video below, Jiu-Jitsu red Belt and Helio Gracie’s son, Relson Gracie, teaches the “Reading Newspaper” armbar variation and it’s a very good one for isolating your opponent’s arm.

Special emphasis is placed on wrist control with both hands to keep your opponent’s arm isolated as much as possible. Once your opponent figures out what’s going on it will be hard for him to pull his hand out, and that’s the main focus of this armbar.

Armbar variations like this “reading newspaper” are usually pretty fast submissions without your opponents seeing them coming because your legs are not used to control your opponent’s body and posture, but only to isolate your opponent’s arm.

It’s definitely worth a try.

Khamzat Chimaev Reveals How Much He Needs To Train To Get Brown Belt in BJJ

Khamzat Chimaev has revealed how long it will take him to gain a higher belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The Brown Belt in his case.

Chimaev claimed a unanimous decision victory over Gilbert Burns at UFC 273 on Sunday, one of the best fights of the year. It was the first time ‘Borz’ was truly challenged in his UFC career, having had to recover from a tough second round.

After the battle, Swedish Chimaev was promoted to purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu by his trainer Alan “Finfou” Nascimento. The BJJ veteran had challenged Chimaev to become the first person to submit Gilbert Burns in MMA. While he didn’t win ‘Durinho,’ Chimaev’s coach was clearly inspired by the bout.

Chimaev uploaded a photo with his new belt on Instagram and announced how long it will take him to attain a brown belt:

“Thank you, coach. Now I have to work for 5 more years to get my next belt.”

The purple belt in BJJ is considered a transitional ranking in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Based on several BJJ ranking systems, athletes must usually spend at least 18 months to two years as a purple belt before becoming eligible for a brown belt.

Dana White Awarded Burns With a Bonus For Winning Despite the Loss. He Explains Why!

Dana White Awarded Burns With a Bonus For Winning Despite the Loss. Explains Why!

Dana White’s stance on paying fighters appears to have softened.

Burns lost to a unanimous judge’s decision after three rounds of war with Chimaev. Burns was nevertheless beaten by a unanimous jury decision following three rounds of warfare against Chimaev. No one has anything to be ashamed of, as they have undoubtedly left the entire arena in awe.

That wasn’t a loss for UFC president Dana White, who was so impressed with Durinho’s performance that he decided to properly reward him. Namely, despite the loss, Burns received a cut of the profits for the win.

”I’ll give Burns money for the win, too. The fight was truly amazing. In fact, it was one of the best fights I’ve ever seen. The whole hall was loud and the audience was crazy, and the fight overshadowed both the title and title fight, “said White.

Dana, as expected, praised Chimaev, but hand on heart, he didn’t forget about Burns either: ” Gilbert told me he was ready to die tonight. He received several bombs as well. ”

He has not forgotten his previous performances either: ”Burns has fought four times in two years. Mostly in an empty hall, “he added.

It is unclear whether Dana wants to reduce the stigma of a miser who does not pay fighters or if things are truly improving when it comes to salaries. Regardless, it will be beneficial to the athletes, regardless of why you do something.

Chimaev like we have never seen before: ‘He’s got kids, man!’, ‘BJJ Purple Belt means a lot to me’

Khamzat Chimaev like we have never seen before: 'He's got kids, man!'

Khamzat Chimaev shows emotions after UFC 273 and a fight against Gilbert Burns

Since his debut in the martial arts world, Khamzat Chimaev (11-0, 5-0 UFC) has done extremely well outside of the Octagon and at home. His self-promotion has long been a part of his identity, and it features “trash talk” and arrogance towards opponents.

“Borz” had the most difficult fight of his career on Saturday. He faced Gilbert Burns at UFC 273, defeating him by a unanimous decision of the referees after an evenly contested bout. After a press conference, he decided to clarify all of the bad comments that have followed him since day one.

“I’ve been the bad guy,” Chimaev said. “To everybody else, it looks like I don’t respect these characters. This is all a game; you’re attempting to play with his head and make mistakes. I learn something from every one of them.”

“I have nothing but respect for all of my opponents.”- Khamzat added

He admitted that it was because of his family that he had some difficulty fighting Burns: ” It was actually very difficult to fight him (Burns) because I saw his children. They came up to me and asked me if I was fighting with their dad. I don’t need that s***. ”

”I don’t want to fight some dad, I need a killer like me. I need someone who doesn’t care about that, “Chimaev concluded.

Recall, Khamzat Chimaev last night came to his eleventh career victory and fifth in the UFC, defeating Gilbert Burns by unanimous decision.

Also, Khamzat Chimaev explained why he wears a BJJ Purple belt around his neck.

In a recent interview, Khamzat Chimaev said that his BJJ instructor will promote him to Purple Belt if he manages to submit Gilbert Burns.

Obviously, Chimaev didn’t submit Burns but he took him down a couple of times and he wasn’t in any real danger. That was enough for his coach to award him a purple belt after the fight.

“The purple belt means a lot to me because of my coach that whom I work with for 5 years now. The guys I was fighting were black belts they could do something when I took them down but they didn’t. I’m happy I got the purple belt. It means a lot to me” – Chimaev explained why he’s wearing a purple belt around his neck at the post-fight press conference
