The main fight of the evening for the light heavyweight belt was led by Jan Blachowicz (29-9) and Glover Teixeira (33-7) in which Glover became the new champion after less than two rounds.

Round 1: Glover takes the center of the octagon and soon took the champion down. Glover ended on top, but he didn’t do any real harm from there. Teixeira controlled the fight on the ground until the end of the first round, and that’s how the first round ended.

Round 2: At the beginning of the second round, the fighters, fortunately for Jan, are back on their feet and now Blachowicz is much more careful. Jan started to combine well, after which he defended a new attempt of a takedown and continued the fight on his feet. He hit Glover with a great combination and seemed to have a fight where he wanted it. Glover was looking to clinch Jan but he ended up with his face up the fence with Blachowicz on his back. It didn’t take long and they were soon in the middle of the Octagon. Jan was now ready with the takedown defense and did not allow himself to be surprised, but he got surprised by one beautiful Glover’s left hook right in his chin. Jan was shaken, but he got into an open fight and hit Glover several times. Still, that upheaval resulted in a new opportunity to demolish, and Teixeira took advantage of it. In Jan’s attempt to get out, a Brazilian came up behind him, slipped his hand under his neck, and squeezed. The light heavyweight division got a new champion, Glover Teixeira.

Glover Teixeira became the second oldest UFC champion in history, behind the yet hard-to-reach Randy Couture. But he is not done yet, he actually thinks that the main part of his career has just begun with this victory.
