We can often see police officers using a teaser or weapon on a suspect and even when the suspect does not pose a great danger to the environment and the police officer himself. That is exactly the situation in which Jiu-Jitsu is effective.
The officers would be able to take the suspect down and keep him there until they arrest him or until reinforcements arrive.
Jiu-Jitsu is proven to be of good use for cops. If all cops were trained in BJJ they would simply be able to take people down and keep them there with no harm or excessive force used.
So we can easily say that if all police officers were trained in the BJJ and groundwork, their safety, and even the suspects’ safety, would be at a higher level.
In the video below, we can see a police officer successfully tearing down a suspect and keeping him on the floor until reinforcements arrive. It is especially nice to see the transition made by a police officer when he goes from knee-on-belly to the armbar.
