Estevan Martinez is also known as “The Giant Slayer” is one of the names that has been making waves in the entire Jiu-Jitsu community due to his impressive skill and fearlessness against bigger opponents.

Measuring at 4ft 9’ and weighing 145 pounds almost all of his opponents are bigger than him but that does not stop him one bit as he is always pushing the pace and going aggressively forward during his matches as you can see here in his match against 6ft 3’ Aaron Wilson at 3CG 8.

Martinez also added another important milestone to his resume this year by winning

gold at the IBJJF No-Gi Worlds in an impressive fashion.

And soon he will also be competing in this year’s ADCC East Coast Trials this November, which is an event you won’t want to miss and the name Estevan Martinez continues to generate excitement.

Is Estevan confirmation that Gracies created the best martial art for the little guy in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Is his skill a result of knowledge of techniques or is it a result of his top-level conditioning and explosiveness? I personally would make an argument that it is both.

There has always been debate about whether or not BJJ is the best martial art for smaller and weaker people. On one hand, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu does offer a large number of techniques to overpower and submit bigger opponents but as the grandmaster, Helio once said a stronger man without is already a blue belt but a stronger man with Jiu-Jitsu is unstoppable.

Estevan Martinez may be the exception to that rule but make no mistake, he is not by any means weaker as his ability to explode and pass people’s guards can only be the product of intense strength and cardiovascular training.
