Tight Psoas or tight hip flexors can be linked to lower back pain and if you do Jiu-Jitsu, you know what lower back pain feels like.

We are all too used to waking up with a sore back after a few hard rounds of sparring the night before. The problem is we all get up and carry on with our day feeling sore and not dealing with the issue, but stretching and working on your mobility can help you get rid of that.

This stretch can help with some causes of lower back pain because when the hip flexors are tight it can be putting extra pressure on your lower back. The added hip mobility will benefit your Jiu-Jitsu too, giving you more movement and more options on the mats.

What’s even more important is that this stretch really works, and it works instantly. I’m talking from my own experience here. If you have problems with the lower back after roll, or usually having lower back pain on one side immediately after doing this stretch I can’t feel the same pain. It feels like it magically removes it.

It doesn’t mean your back is healed or that you won’t have problems ever again cause every deeper problem you have in your back needs more stretching and healing than just removing pain temporarily. But if we can help ourselves with the pain we should try it.

Spend a few minutes on each side in this stretch and feel the benefits for yourself! If you don’t have a mat you can put your gi jacket under your knee.
