Khabib Nurmagomedov and Daniel Cormier made one special kind of friendship through the years during which they trained together at the American Kickboxing Academy. Today, when they are both retired in combat, their meetings are not so frequent, but maybe that is why they pass in a unique atmosphere.

After what happened in the moments when Cormier presented Khabib with the UFC’s “Submission of the Year” award, a new recording appeared in the locker room, the day before the show on Fight Island, led by Michael Chiesa and Neil Magny, and where Khabib’s cousin, Umar Nurmagomedov, made his first UFC appearance.

Cormier, today a UFC commentator, came to greet the team in the locker room, and it wasn’t long before Khabib found something he could get into an argument with Cormier. DC came very neatly dressed, in a suit appropriate to his function, but the UFC lightweight champion noticed he had sneakers instead of shoes on his feet.

“What is this? What kind of shoes are they? When you dress like this, you can’t put it on your feet,” Khabib told him, continuing, “You’ve become a higher level, now you’re on television, you can’t do that.”

A discussion ensued, and Umar and Usman Nurmagomedov had a good time in the background, while Cormier first asked Khabib why he was condemning him, and then set out to explain some things to him by showing photos on the phone.

It was all filmed by coach Javier Mendez and posted on his Instagram. We can see a very interesting and entertaining discussion in which Khabib drew some parallels with his own “styling”. In the end, Umar Nurmagomedov promised Cormier to buy shoes worth $1,200 if he registered a victory in his first UFC fight. Not only did he succeed in that, but he also saved a $50,000 bonus for best performance. Of course, DC got new shoes.
